MICA was born in summer 2020 at the instigation of one of Nanaimo’s leading developers and advocates, Kent Krauza. After a general public consultation process, what would become the MICA board of directors was created and the society was founded in August 2020 with the assistance and encouragement of the Climbers Access Society of BC.
For the last 6 months the newly formed Board has been working hard to launch the first formal climbing society in the mid Island. Consulting regularly with our neighbouring societies (South Island Climbers Assc; North Island Climbers Assc; Vancouver Climbers Assc; CASBC), we are proud to announce our launch as our website goes live.
Please poke around our site as it contains a lot of info and follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
The single most important thing you can do to help MICA is to become a member. Becoming a member helps MICA achieve its goals of securing and expanding climbing access, improving and standardizing hardware and safety at crags, and expanding access to all members of our community who want to climb. We’ve designed our memberships on a widely sliding price scale, with all memberships being equal. It is crucial for our capacity to lobby on your behalf that we have the highest number of members possible, so please don’t hesitate to join at our $5/year fee if that’s what you can afford. We need and want you as a member!
