Alex Lowe

Whelm

Whelm has been a climber for 8 years and started MICA as a way to give back to the community and sport he holds so dear. An entrepreneur, business manager and consultant, Whelm has worked in the arts, media, law, agriculture and cannabis.

Favorite local climb? Last summer I fell in love with Boogie Chillin’ 11C at Darkside.

Kellie

Kellie has been a climber for over 10 years. As a way to give back to the sport, he decided to join MICA rather than put his extra time into trying to climb 5.15 ;). When he isn’t climbing, Kellie is the head chef at Melange and route sets at the Romper Room. 

Favorite local climb? Horne Lake.

Michelle

Michelle has been climbing for 3 years. She’s always been passionate about community involvement having started her own non-profit society to help maintain trails and parks in Northern BC. When she isn’t climbing or creating beautiful paintings Michelle works as a project manager.
Favorite local climb? Probably Sunnyside as I live right next to it.

Andreas

Andreas has been climbing for over 20 years and wanted to give back to the comunity He runs a number of companies including a financial planning firm in Nanaimo. 

Favorite local climb? Longview

Amelia

Amelia has been climbing for 5 years and wanted a way to become active in the community so she joined MICA. She believes the community and crags have huge potential for further development. Amelia is a teacher at an alternative school that teaches an outdoor based model of learning.

Favorite local climb? Pseudo placenta or the 11b next to it. I like Northwood a lot though!

Jonathan

Jonathan is one of the original developers and advocates for climbing in the mid Island area, a passion which continues to this day both in developing routes and projects, and as the owner of Nanaimo’s only climbing gym, Romper Room.

Jared

Jared has been a climber for 3 years and joined MICA to ensure a strong climbing community exists for his three growing children. He is a software product manager in edtech and director at Mount Cain.

Favorite local climb? Any one covered in ice.

Andrea

Andrea has been a climber for 20 years. She’s a photographer, graphic designer, scuba instructor and natural choice for MICA’s resident tech person. 

Favorite local climb? Any climb is a good climb!
