We acknowledge we climb on unceded land that has been cared for by Indigenous communities for millennia. We humbly offer free membership in MICA.
It costs about $20 on average for the materials (rebar, nails, etc) to build a trail for each route at a crag. This does not include the cost of tools or labor.
Beyond the hard costs of materials, many tools are required to establish and maintain a crag. Generators, drills, hoses, ropes, power washers and more, and all take a beating to provide the climbing we love. It costs about $50 in tool maintenance to establish a new route.
A new sport route with 7-9 bolts costs about $100 in materials (bolts, hangers, anchor), not including trail building, tool costs or labor.
You are deeply committed to climbing in the mid Island and you have the financial capacity to give back at the highest level. This one time membership fee gets you a lifetime membership in MICA, and you will be listed on the “Lifetime Members” section of our website (you can opt out if you want to remain anonymous).
Why $400? Because there are over 400 routes in the current (6th) edition of the Nanaimo Guide Book. As a bonus, we’ll give you a copy of the Guide Book for free with your Lifetime Membership!
The associated costs for each membership fee are for reference only. For example: a $10 membership fee won’t necessarily be used to buy one anchor setup.
Please note that your membership will automatically renew annually. You can modify this in My Account.
Already a member but want to further support MICA’s work? Great!
